Red hair and all

After talking to neighbors and having them ask about the red hair I used to have when I was little, I asked my husband about my hair color. While I realize that it is not the carrot orange it was in my youth, it still has a reddish tint. WELL that was a mistake! He (being bluntly honest, to a fault) said "You must admit it is an icky brown."

So, I dyed it. Flaming red. Unfortunately, the flaming part was not even. There are still a few ends of "icky brown" on one side. His words, and I quote b/c I am traumatized beyond belief by this, "What in the h*ll did you do? Your hair looks like sh*t!" After I said that it was no longer "icky brown" in color, he says "Even that looked better than this sh*t."

I am now looking at using henna to dye my hair. Lucille Ball used henna and her hair was gorgeous. Of course she had hairdressers but I have been looking at how to do it at the house. It looks like it should be as easy as the chemical stuff that I have been using. Plus, it appears that the stuff that I was using is manufactured in China (and other places). You know, where they don't have regulations and all that stuff about what you can/can't put in the stuff and where they don't have cleanliness standards and where there are no inspections. Who knows what they can do there? Who knows if someone has blown their nose in the bottles? I know, I know, the whole disgusting scenario could happen anywhere. But if I do the henna powder mixed with lemon juice and water I know what I am putting on my hair. I'm also looking into making lots of stuff to clean the house.
