The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY January 5, 2009 . . .
Outside my window . . .
It was raining and now it is drippy and ugh!

I am thinking . . .
about my friends and acquantiances and wondering what it takes to make an acquantaince a friend.

I am thankful for . . .
so many things! I was sitting in the deer stand yesterday thinking about all the things I have to be thankful for. In fact, I am going to start a thankful journal but I am going to do it here on Thursdays. In fact, I will be using this button (kinda like I do the Simple Woman’s Daybook on Mondays):

From the kitchen . . .
Salads and fruits!! One of my resolutions this year was to eat healthier and cut down on the chocolate (oh. my. gosh. this is difficult!!). So I have a huge bag of salad I mixed up last night that will come to work with me tomorrow (got too many errands at lunch today!). It includes lettuce, spinach, cucumber slices, grated carrots, diced multiplying onions, and chunks of green bell peppers (I'm not overly fond of tomatoes except on cheeseburgers!). I have fully cooked baby shrimp for a few days and am going to grill some chicken for others. All with a catalina dressing.

I am wearing . . .
Blue jean dress with a black collar and black slip on shoes.

I am creating . . .
a red scarf for a friend and an afghan for Jamie

I am going . . .
to the grocery store at lunch. Have I mentioned how I hate grocery shopping? No? Not since last year? Well, I have to admire my restraint!! hehe!

I am reading . . .
the Bible and End of the Drive by Louis L’Amour

I am hoping . . .
the rain clears out or at least goes on hiatus while I am running errands at lunch!

I am hearing . . .
silence. It is golden.

Around the house...
I did not get anything done while I was off!!! Went hunting morning and evening and did other stuff with my dad in between (did I mention we have two new puppies at our house from last week and have moved logging equipment and skinned a hog???).

One of my favorite things...
realizing someone has been sent into your life by God at a specific time for a reason. I felt like I should return a book to Dawn on Tuesday. It was no hurry, no reason for it to be returned on that specific day but I just couldn’t get over the feeling it should be that day. Then I find out why. She was going with an outreach group to a maximum security prison for the weekend to pray and teach the word of God. Her husband was not going to stand in her way if that was what she felt led to do, but he was concerned for her safety (as is understandable). She wanted to put me down on the list as someone who would be praying for the women in the prison during this weekend and for the volunteers who were going in. And she wanted to know that I would pray for her husband. It was God’s will that I return her book to her on that day and talk with her about her plans. I get goosebumps when I think about it. (P.S. I have talked to dawn today and it went so well, she had a great time, the people she was working with had a great time, she felt safe at all times. Life is good.)

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Clean the living room, work on getting Will to eat some salads, start organizing the bills/etc. (another new years resolution), order knives for this weekend (trade days in Lufkin).

Here is picture thought I am sharing . . . picture of one of my flower beds just before everything pops open. Why can't it be that warm?!?!? Hopefully it will get cold and stay cold for 4-5 days. We are wanting to get cuttings off of pear trees behind my dad's house (they were at least 137 years old when I was in the 4th grade and we did the research for a historical marker at the end of my dad's driveway on Coltharp—that was the earliest stories we found about people coming to get pears from the grove). We have tried before but something always ended up happening to them. This time I am planting them in huge mineral tubs for 2-3 years before we plant them out in the ground.
