The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 9, 2009 . . .

Outside my window . . .
Cloudy and windy but warm, warm, warm!!!

I am thinking . . .
I am never making jelly with my SIL EVER again!!

I am thankful for . . .
friends who understand the need for a nice, sit-down steak dinner

From the kitchen . . .
Friday was fried chicken, cream potatoes, and gravy. Saturday my SIL and her three kids came over to make jelly. Sigh. As in, her idea of an early start was 11:30, she fed her kids donuts and chocolate milk, she had not boiled the berries down, and all she brought was berries, jars, rings and lids. No sugar, no sure jell, no pots, no freaking clue!! Then she was doing a batch all by herself (I was loading the washer, hanging clothes out, taking clothes off the line) and she let it BOIL OVER ON MY STOVE!!! And I don't mean it was a little, I mean she managed to smear it all over the freaking stove and on the floor!! That batch was not quite 2 pints and you usually get 3 and a half pints. So a pint and a half of jelly was all over my stove. How do you manage that?!?!?!?!?!
Last night was steaks and blackberry cobbler. Tonight is going to be fried bologna sandwiches.

I am wearing . . .
gray capris, teal t, blue plaid skeechers

I am creating . . .
more homemade jelly (all we did Sat. was hers, and she took juice home b/c I had to get cleaned up and go to Lufkin to meet friends and go out to eat).

I am going . . .
to the store to get some salt pork, Daddy brought more greens down to the house yesterday.

I am reading . . .

I am hoping . . .
the weather holds until I get home b/c I have towels on the line

I am hearing . . .
silence, it is golden

Around the house...
clan clothes and quiet broken only by the sound of birds

One of my favorite things...
sunshine

A few plans for the rest of the week:
more jelly (since I did not do it last week b/c had plans to do it Saturday when I had help—HA!! as if the help was really help!!!)

Here is picture thought I am sharing . . . this is a picture I took a few years ago when we did a 3 hour trek across the Amazon rainforest. Sigh. Okay, I am kidding. It was 3 hours but it was across the road a ways from our house but it was hot (over 100 degrees that day) and muggy and full of mosquitoes and on a day when I was majorly PMSing. For some reason I fell in love with the colors in this mud puddle. Or maybe I was just using it as an excuse to stop and rest. Who knows? Anywho, this pic reminds me to just say no when Will mentions going for a short walk to look for sign!!

Sorry the jelly day didn't go as you hoped. What a mess!
